Exploring SkillsFuture: Can It Fund Postgraduate Study?

Mid-career professionals in Singapore are arguably some of the luckiest workers in the world when it comes to reskilling opportunities. Thanks to government initiatives, those who are eager to stay relevant in an ever-evolving economy are not left entirely on their own. The SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme is one of the clearest examples of this commitment.

Launched as a way to support mid-career Singaporeans aged 40 and above, the programme aims to help individuals undergo substantive reskilling and upskilling to secure a career reboot. It provides two forms of direct support: a further top-up of SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) and the Mid-Career Training Allowance (MCTA), which helps cover living expenses while participants take time off for training.

The allowance, in particular, stands out as the ideal mechanism for mid-career workers who cannot afford to forgo income while pursuing professional development. But here comes the question many have started asking: can this allowance extend to something as ambitious as a master’s degree?
